Weill Cornell Medicine - Qatar (WCM-Q),
was established in partnership with Qatar Foundation. It is a branch of the historic Weill Cornell Medical School founded in New York more than a century ago. WCM-Q has the same mission as the parent university, which is to provide the finest education possible for medical students. To conduct research at the cutting edge of knowledge, and to provide improved health and community care to present and future generations. Designed by the world-renowned architect, Arata Isozaki. it was formally dedicated in October 2003.
The structure comprises of two 200-meter-long halls linked by bridges that house faculty and student lounges.
There are four lecture halls in three-dimensional geometric shapes in the central courtyard. Contemporary in concept and building materials chosen, the construction nonetheless features many references to traditional Islamic and Gulf Architecture with highly articulated geometric patterns on its exterior and interior skins and featuring wind towers in the courtyard. Once inside, the halls present long vistas which change in aspect as the sun moves East to West during the day.
KEO as the PMC, worked closely with Qatar Foundation, Weil Cornell, and with the architects, engineers, and specialist consultants from inception of its concept visualization to handing over.
