01 | Introduction
Why iCRBN?
iCRBN is a scenario analysis tool developed by KEO to allow our clients to examine the best way to reduce carbon emissions through design. Within the cityscape, it offers an extended assessment of possible alternatives.
iCRBN is a new and unique city scale carbon accounting analysis tool that supports decision makers for cities, communities, and large real estate portfolios.
iCRBN is one of the KEO’s key solutions for reducing the impact of climate change.
City Scale Carbon Analysis Dimensions
Operational Energy
Energy consumption in buildings is linked to the efficiency of the design, heating, ventilation, air conditioning system
and their operational strategies.
Building Materials
Construction materials of new projects have embodied carbon emissions which are associated to their manufacturing activities.
Infrastructure Materials
Cities include external public spaces, roads and utilities for which energy is consumed during their manufacturing and construction.
Construction Emissions
During the construction stage of a new projects, carbon emissions are released to the atmosphere by construction vehicles and generators.
Lifetime Mobility
Mobility by cars and other vehicles is considered to be part of the carbon calculations. Future emissions include alternative means of transportation and low carbon fuels.
Emissions from Waste
Waste generation is increasing in cities. Organic waste generation has atmospheric emissions which are linked to climate change.
Water Consumption
Water may be withdrawn from wells, desalinated from the sea or recycled. Water consumption efficiency is of a crucial importance.
Green Parks
Green spaces within cities are playing a crucial role to improve various socio-economic factors in addition to removing carbon from the atmosphere.
Power Grid
The carbon content of power by utilities can be further reduced by better generation efficiencies and integration of renewable energy.
Renewable Energy
The integration of renewable energy sources is expected to be increased at local level and utility scale.
